We welcome and embrace the uniqueness of every patient. We promise to care for you with the same respect and inclusion, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or how you identify. We celebrate the joy of connecting. Be yourself and belong here.
Our office strives to provide care to patients as soon as they need it. Same-day visits are welcome when possible. Please don’t hesitate to call if urgent problem or if a same-day visit is otherwise desired.
We know our patients have a choice in several different areas, so we go out of our way to deliver the level of care and compassion we would want for our own families.
An annual wellness visit is the cornerstone to keeping updated and connected and making the best plan for each woman to maintain good health and prevent disease.
These important transitions may entail bothersome symptoms including hot flashes, sleep disturbance, and genital dryness. There are numerous safe ways to help ensure that these times are healthful, comfortable, and energetic.
Selecting among today’s many birth control options is a personal choice that can be confusing. Be well-informed and supported in deciding which is best for you.
There is no more heartfelt or important desire for many women and couples than to achieve pregnancy and have a child. There is no more rewarding privilege for a gynecologist than to help a couple achieve that dream.
Abnormal genital bleeding can be concerning as well as inconvenient. It is usually benign and treatable but must be discussed and evaluated to ensure that it is not from a more harmful cause.
An abnormal pap smear is worrisome to a patient and must be expertly evaluated for a potential precancerous condition. The good news is that treatment is almost always successful in preventing a worsening problem or a cancer.
Complete health may be our long-term goal, but our immediate priority is patient comfort. We do our best to facilitate a warm, relaxing, and non-threatening environment that engenders an extended patient family in contrast to some larger and busier practices. We want every patient to never hesitate and to feel comfortable when calling with any question or arriving at the office.
Dr. Ken Fortier is a preeminent, experienced provider of women’s healthcare known throughout the triangle area for his compassionate, personalized, patient-centered practice style. He has been on the faculty of obstetrics and gynecology at both Duke and UNC.
After graduating from Dartmouth College (summa cum laude) and Dartmouth Medical School, he trained in obstetrics and gynecology and joined the faculty at Duke University School of Medicine, where he was known for patient-centered care and award-winning teaching.
He has since enjoyed private practice of ob/gyn in Raleigh and is currently a Clinical Professor at UNC School of Medicine where he has developed and teaches popular courses on compassion in medical care. He is board-certified in both ob/gyn and pathology (the formal study of diseases).
He has established Fortier Gynecology as an intentionally small and personalized practice for both well-woman and expert gynecologic care and as a place where women can feel comfortable and receive truly individualized professional care from a doctor and staff who know them. He hopes to provide respite from the often rushed and sometimes impersonal experiences in larger more corporate practices.
“I honor the special trust that patients place in their physician. My goal is to listen attentively, understand the patient’s goals and conscientiously apply my knowledge, skills, and experience to help meet them.
“Compassion is the heart of medical care. Patients should always be heard, appreciated, and treated with dignity and respect. We will maintain good health, recommend up-to-date screening schedules, and will work through problems together without giving up.”
Compassion is the concern for and desire to relieve or prevent the suffering of others. Compassion is our core value at Fortier Gynecology. Dr. Fortier has developed and teaches popular courses titled “How to Engage Compassion in Medicine” in his role as Clinical Professor at the UNC School of Medicine.
